Ongoing magma accumulation and land rise in Svartsengi
Updated 7. May at 17:45 UTCThe eruption at the Sundhnúk crater row continues. Lava continues to flow a short distance from the active vent, but activity within this crater is decreasing. Over the past week, little to no change has been observed in the southern part of the lava field near the defensive barriers east of Grindavík.Magma accumulation and land rise continue in Svartsengi. The rate has remained consistent in recent weeks (see figure below). These measurements indicate that pressure continues to rise in the magma chamber. Therefore, a new dike intrusion from the magma chamber beneath Svartsengi towards the Sundhnúk crater row remains possible

Taking action after 14 thousand salmon escaped from a fish farm in Norway
A lot of big salmon escaped from Lerøy's sea cages in Reitholmen. A hole in the sea cage was discovered last Sunday. The Norwegian salmon farming company Lerøy Seafood Group estimates that approximately 14 thousand salmon over seven kilos have escaped from the aquarium of the subsidiary of Lerøy Midt in Reitholmen, Fillifjord. The farming area was one of the places where an unusually high number of dead fish were found in the last year. more

Three broke the Icelandic record in Iceland Backyard Ultra
President of Iceland Guðni Th. Jóhannesson welcomed the runners to Öskjuhlíð as they set a new Icelandic record. Mari Järsk, Andri Guðmundsson, and Elísa Kristinsdóttir broke the Icelandic record in the Iceland Backyard Ultra in Öskjuhlíð today when they finished 51 laps. They have been running since nine o’clock on Saturday morning. more

This picture was taken of the crater on April 30. The inflation at Svartsengi is stable and there are now about twelve million cubic metres of magma in the magma chamber. A slight increase in seismic activity at the magma channel has been seen in the last few days. "No time to hit the brakes"
Zak and Elliot traveling before they had the accident. Elliot is still in the hospital but awaiting to get home to England. Zak Nel­son and his fiancé Elliot Griffiths from the UK were just off on a long-awaited trip in Iceland when an accident occurred. A car crossed the wrong side of the road and hit the couple’s car, causing Elliot to suffer serious injuries and required operations for internal injuries. Zak, who escaped much better, sat down with a reporter and told his story. more
