Sebastián Yatra and Aitana were really taken in by Akureyri and made a song about the town. Recently the Colombian singer Sebasti­án Yatra and the Spanish singer Ait­ana released a song titled Ak­ur­eyri. However, this collaboration has been a source of some attention as they had a romantic relationship for several months in the last year but announced their break-up at the end of the year. more

Land continues to rise at Svartsengi
Updated 2. May at 18:00 UTCLand deformation continues to be measured at Svartsengi, and the rate of uplift has remained stable in recent weeks (see image below). Earlier in the week, there were indications that the rate of land rise might have slowed in the preceding days. However, measurements since then reveal that the rate has remained steady in the context of the past few weeks. Pressure continues to increase within the magma chamber, and there is a risk that the magma chamber beneath Svartsengi will feed a new volcanic eruption.more

Alert level has been raised in Grindavík
On Saturday April 27, lava went over a defense wall east of Grindavík, but since then it has been stopped by the defense walls. The Icelandic Meteorological Office has updated the risk assessment due to the seismic activity on the Reykjanes Peninsula.
