Millions worth of damages in Urrðaholt due to an eletrical failure
Holtsvegur in Urriðaholt in Garðabær where the electrical malfunction occurred on Friday. Residents in a few dozen apartments in Urriðaholt in Garðabær suffered millions worth of damages last Friday when a malfunction in an electric box run by HS Veitur caused the voltage to soar from 220V to almost 400V in some of the apartments that were connected to this electric box. more

“Worst storm in living memory”
Residents of North and East Iceland are only now starting to assess the damage caused by this weekend’s storm—described by many in the East Fjords as the worst in living memory. The last of the storm has still yet to fully clear Iceland, and roads in the southeast of the country are still closed this evening. The final yellow weather alert expires at 23.00 tonight. more

The Special Forces were a part of the operation last week when four men were arrested believed to have been plotting a terrorist attack. "I think the arrest was not aggressive. It was a big operation, but the man was not thrown on the ground or anything like that," says Ómar Örn Bjarnþórsson, the defense attorney for one of the the men in police custody who was apprehended in Holtasmári last week. more

Over 200 calls to the Rescue teams
Rescue teams have been very busy in the Eastfjords and in the North today because of the weather. The weather has been very bad, with gale winds and very high sea in the North of Iceland and in the East. The last 24 hours the ICE-SAR Landsbjörg Rescue teams have had over 200 emergency calls which 350 people have been involved in taking care of. more
