Halla Tómasdóttir put into office as Iceland’s second female president
Halla Tómasdóttir takes office as President of Iceland today. She will be the second woman to hold the position. The formal program begins today at 15:30. "The setup is the same as in 2016 [when Jóhannesson, the sitting president, first took office]. In 2020, of course, and during Covid, everything was smaller,” says Sigurður Örn Guðleifsson, a lawyer in the Prime Minister's Office who is responsible for organizing the inauguration, in an interview with Morgunblaðið.

Another glacial outburst flood could be in the charts
The glacier runoff in Skálm east of Mýrdalsjökull is probably over. The water level has dropped below what it was before the run. Several earthquakes have been recorded on the western side of Mýrdalsjökull glacier. It is possible that another glacier run will start there. The Icelandic Met Office is monitoring the situation.
