The dike might have expanded
The devastating earthquakes that occurred on Friday, November 10, may also have expanded the magma's dike from a deeper chamber to a shallower one. As a result, more magma flows higher into the earth's crust now than before.

An actor writes a thriller
The great actor, and now author, Richard Armitage, welcomes the journalist with a broad smile and a big hug. Armitage is probably best known for his role as Thorin Oakenshield in the trilogy Hobbit, based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s books. Many people also know him from the British spy-show Spooks, the movie Ocean’s Eight, or the recently launched love-scandal show Obsession. But now the actor has tried his hand in the literary field, as the exciting thriller Geneva has been published. That is why the British actor was invited to Iceland for the bookfestival Iceland Noir, which took place in Reykjavík recently.

Seismic
activity still decreasingUpdated 1. December at 16:50 UTCThe
seismicity on the peninsula continues to decrease. For the past few days, the
automatic earthquake location system has been detecting relatively few earthquakes,
mostly micro-earthquakes below magnitude one. The most recent seismicity is
concentrated in the area between Sýlingarfell and Hagafell, where most likely
the dike is fed by magma accumulating beneath Svartsengi. Some deformation is
still detected at the cGPS stations located close to the dike, but the signal
is now mainly interpreted as the response of the crust to the inflation ongoing
in the Svartsengi area.more

The uplift in Askja has slowed
downThere
is evidence of recent changes in the deformation data (cGNSS) around Askja. The
deformation rate has decreased since the beginning of August and the signal has
flattened at several stations within or around the caldera. At this stage it is
uncertain what process is causing this pressure reduction, possibly the source
of the inflation has been shut off or it could be related to an outflow of magmatic
fluids.more
