Kristín Jónsdóttir, the director of natural-monitoring at the Icelandic Met Office, said at a Civil protection meeting this afternoon that the situation is in line with the past few days and the earthquake activity and deformation rate have decreased.

constant. Approximately 1,700 earthquakes have been recorded in the last 24
hours, 1.000 of those recorded since midnight. The largest earthquake during
the last 24 hours had a magnitude of 2.8 and occurred near Hagafell, 3.5 km NNE

Sulfur dioxide detected in a drilling hole in Svartsengi power plant
Yesterday, magma gas, or sulfur dioxide, was measured from a drilling hole in Svartsengi power plant, located just north of Mt. Þorbjörn. The drilling hole is located in the east under Grindavík road and extends into the crust towards Sundhnúkar crater row.

When we "meet our grief bravely" – the healing begins
“The things Örninn is doing for grieving children in this country is essential,” says the journalist and author Allison Gilbert, who is the main speaker in a seminar held by the organization today at Vídalínskirkja in Garðabær. The seminar starts at 12 o’clock and the president of Iceland, Guðni Th. Jóhannesson, will launch the seminar followed by Gilbert’s presentation about working with grief. Deformation still active and eruption likely
The majority of earthquakes occurred at the magma tunnel, which lies under the Sundhnúka crater row and southwest through Grindavík. Since midnight, 700 earthquakes have been recorded over the magma channel, the largest of which was 3.1 at Hagafell.

The uplift in Askja has slowed
down
There
is evidence of recent changes in the deformation data (cGNSS) around Askja. The
deformation rate has decreased since the beginning of August and the signal has
flattened at several stations within or around the caldera. At this stage it is
uncertain what process is causing this pressure reduction, possibly the source
of the inflation has been shut off or it could be related to an outflow of magmatic
