Tweeting up a storm
Elon Musk and Haraldur Þorleifsson have been fighting on Twitter. Þorleifsson wanted first of all to know whether he was still an employee of Twitter, which turned out to not be the case. hafa verið að skylmast á Twitter. Haraldur vildi fyrst fá að vita hvort hann væri enn starfsmaður Twitter eður ei, sem kom síðan í ljós að hann væri ekki. Secondly, Þorleifsson is demanding that the company pays him what he is owed. Ten days ago, access to Haraldur Þorleifsson’s work computer at Twitter was blocked. The company’s chief of staff cannot confirm whether Þorleifsson is still employed by the social network. more

What looked like oil spill turned out to be a school of capelin
One member of the helicopter crew went down to Þrídrangar to check on the lighthouse and the situation there and the hoisted back up. The dark patches around Reykjanes peninsula, which at first appeared to be an oil pollutant in the ocean, turned out to be a school of capelin, at least so it seems. The Coast Guard writes about this on their Facebook page, the crew of the TF-GNA helicopter checking the patches and seeing what the sighting was. more

Askja lake. Volcanologist Þorvaldur Þórðarson believes it likely that Askja volcano is at an advanced stage in the process of preparing for an eruption. The events that have taken place in the last few weeks, such as increased seismic activity and the increase in surface water temperature, fit the pattern of the volcano being well advanced in that preparation. more

Broke her leg on the mountain
The daughter held on to her mother's shoes while walking down with a rescue team member while the mother was driven down the mountain in a buggy car. The rescue team Þorbjörn in Grindavík were called out yesterday because of an accident in Fagradalsfjall. A mother was there with her daughter and the mother had broken her leg on the top of the mountain. more

No clear signs of an increase in activity at Askja
Seismic activity around Askja increased in August 2021 as uplift, most likely caused by a magmatic intrusion, began. The seismic activity was more elevated in November and December 2021 and has since the start of 2022 remained steady. At the same time, the uplift has continued at a very stable rate since the beginning of the unrest.more

The weather in Iceland in 2022
The weather in 2022 was variable, but the annual mean of temperature, wind and pressure were mostly around average. In the country as a whole the temperature was equal to the 1991 to 2020 mean, but 0.3°C below the mean of the last ten years. It was relatively warmest around the South coast. The total annual precipitation was slightly above or slightly below average at most stations. But it was unusually wet in Reykjavík and at some locations in the Northeast. Average pressure and wind speed were around the long-term mean.more
