Saved after sitting in the cold for 50 hours
"The weather had been crazy over the weekend. It was a bit better yesterday, but still bitingly cold," says Sigurður Árni Vilhjálmsson the chairman of Dagrenning Rescue Team in Hólmavík. The police in the Westfjords received a call for help yesterday afternoon because of young people who were travelling to the Westfjords but had not been heard from for two days.

Katla makes its presence knownYesterday at midday, an earthquake measuring 3.8 on the Richter scale occurred under the Mýrdalsjökull glacier. Salóme Jórunn Bernhardðsdóttir, a natural hazards expert from the Met Office, confirmed that seismic activity under the glacier increased slightly yesterday. An earthquake of 3 degrees was measured just before eight yesterday morning, and a 2.8 earthquake was measured around 5:30 am. more

240 earthquakes detected since last night
A series of earthquakes started northeast of Eldeyjarboði off the Reykjanes peninsula. The source is about 15 metres off shore and the earthquakes have been ongoing since 8:30 PM last night. The biggest two earthquakes that have been detected were 4.4M and 3.9 M according to information from the Met Office.

Skiing in Iceland in the midnight sun
Lindsey Vonn, one of the most successful female skier in the world, posted a video from her stay in Iceland this summer on The Kelly Clarkson show recently. The video was taken in Tröllaskagi at 1 AM where she went skiing. Clarkson really liked the video but wasn't sure if she would attempt such a feat.

Intense fire in Grandagarður last night
A fire broke out in a building a backyard in Grandagarður in Reykjavík last night. When the fire department arrived at the scene there was a lot of fireand smoke on the premises. However, it went well putting the fire out as is reported on the Facebook page of the Fire department.

The oldest twins in the history of Iceland
Hlaðgerður Snæbjörnsdóttir and Svanhildur Snæbjörnsdóttir are twins. They are celebrating their 100th birthay today. No Icelandic twins have reached the great age of becoming 100 years old before in this country so they are the oldest twins in the history of Iceland.

The wife had stabbed her husband last March and a history of violence
The wife of the man who was stabbed to death in Ólafsfjörður last week is under the suspicion of having stabbed him with a knife last March. The Northeast Iceland police have a few other instances under scrutiny where the couple had been physically fighting.

Grímsvötn is still ongoing and maximum discharge of about 500 m3/s
from Grímsvötn sub-glacial lake is expected to be reached later today or
tonight. The ice-shelf on top of the sub-glacial lake has now subsided
approximately 12 m since 5th of October. Since yesterday morning signals of
floodwater have been detected in Gígjukvísl river by water level measurements

Landed the second prize in the European Street Food Award 2022
Sigvaldi Jóhannesson also known as Chef Silli came in second in a competition for the best street food in Europe in Munich in Germany last weekend. This summer he won the preliminary competition here in Iceland that qualified him for the main competition European Street Food Award 2022 which landed him the second price.
