Lava flow not even half as strong as last week
The lava flow in the last three days was about a third of what it was in the first week. Majestic volcanic clouds are visible above the volcano, slowly moving southwest. The purple horizontal veil hanging around the area is nothing else than toxic sulphur dioxide. more

Drove ten meters into Nettó grocery store
The staff was cleaning the store when our photographer came to the scene. A car was driven into the Nettó grocery store in Búðakór in Kópavogur shortly after noon today. The Chief of the Fire Department in Reykjavík confirmed the story to mbl.is. He says that nothing points to anybody getting hurt, since the paramedics checked all the people that were inside the store. more

Two weeks would be the worst scenario
The volcanic eruption in Meradalir. "The lava had not passed the edge of the pass, but if the flow continues like it has been doing, it will eventually go over the brim. Huge increase in scheduled arrivals of Cruise Ships next summer
Norwegian Star has been sailing around Iceland regularily this summer. Here it is at Skarfabakki Harbour, which is a part of the overall Sundahöfn Harbour. It looks like there will be a huge increase in Cruise ships coming to Icland in 2023, if bookings for that year are anything to go by. Already there are 260 bookings for next summer which means that the summer of 2023 will see more Cruise ships in Iceland than ever before, according to Morgunblaðið today. more

Lava could flow towards a main road
The lava could flow over the pass today or tomorrow. Lava from the eruption at Fagradalsfjall has almost reached the pass in the eastern part of Meradalir and it looks like it would flow in the direction of Suðurstrandarvegur. more

Status of unrest in Reykjanes
Preliminary deformation modelling results suggest the top depth of the new dike intrusion beneath Fagradalsfjall is very shallow - about 1 km. The magma inflow rate is rapid, almost double that observed during the first dike intrusion in february-march 2021.more
