Supreme Court cuts laundering sentence
The Supreme Court of Iceland yesterday cut the money laundering sentence handed down to Júlíus Vífill Ingvarsson, a former Reykjavík city councillor for Sjálfstæðisflokkurinn (the Independence Party). The District Court and the Landsréttur appeals court handed down a ten-month suspended prison sentence, but the Supreme Court cut that to six months. One judge wanted to acquit Júlíus but the final verdict remained guilty. more

Uptdated 23.3 at 12:38Decreasing SW-ly wind today and unhealthy air quality can be expected near the eruption site after 19:00 today. SO2 concentration close to the volcano can surpass over 9000 µg/m3, and CO2 can also gather in valleys in the landscape. It is advised to leave the area before 17:00, keeping away from valleys and following the marked path.more

The year 2020 was stormy. The average wind speed was remarkably high and number of windy days was unusually high.The annual mean temperature at all stations was higher than the 1961 to 1990 mean, but below the average of the last ten years. It was relatively warmer in the East and Northeast but colder in the Southwest and West.The year was wet in the North and East. The annual precipitation in Akureyri has never been higher since the beginning of registration in 1928.
