A total solar eclipse will be visible from western Iceland on 12 August. A partial eclipse will be visible throughout the country, with the Moon partly obscuring the Sun. In the Westfjords, Snæfellsnes, West Iceland, capital area and the Reykjanes peninsula, the Moon will completely cover the Sun, creating a total eclipse.

The Directorate of Immigration has determined that the crew of the Bandero, an anti-whaling vessel operated by the Paul Watson Foundation, were in Iceland for an unlawful purpose, and therefore decided to deport them.
