Festival fun across the country this weekend

Icelanders eager to go camping should be able to find something to suit them across the country this weekend.

New entrance will improve access to Keflavík Airport

Airport operator Isavia has opened a new entrance by the terminal at Keflavík Airport, intended to improve access.

Major construction work that has been under way in recent months in the car parks where arriving passengers leave the terminal is now nearing completion, say Isavia.

Campylobacter contracted after handling gull chick

Birna Viðarsdóttir, who lives at the farm Norður-Hvoll in Mýrdalur, recently spent four days in hospital in isolation with vomiting and diarrhoea, receiving intravenous nutrition and two types of antibiotics.

She had contracted the bacterium Campylobacter after handling a great black-backed gull chick.

Birna is a keen bird enthusiast and is interested in everything to do with birds.

Delight as Baldur returns to Breiðafjörður

The ferry Baldur is sailing across Breiðafjörður again, after operating between mainland Iceland and the Westman Islands in recent weeks.

Jakob Björgvin Sigríðarson Jakobsson, mayor of Stykkishólmur, says local businesses have suffered a major blow because of the ferry's absence.

The sky soon turned a whitish-yellow as an eerie haze settled over the area, according to meteorologist Einar Sveinbjörnsson.
