Fire in roof of four-storey Bryggjuhverfi block

A fire broke out in the roof of a four-storey block of flats on Naustabryggja in Bryggjuhverfi in Reykjavík earlier today.

Slökkvilið höfuðborgarsvæðisins, the Capital Area Fire and Rescue Service, sent four fire engines, two aerial-platform vehicles and all available personnel to the scene.

Búrfell power station repairs nearly complete; restrictions lifted

Repairs to a transformer at Búrfell power station which failed on Wednesday are nearing completion. Due to the failure and maintenance work by energy producers, less generating capacity than usual was available in the system.

Industry minister on Elkem: “Key objective is to protect our international competitiveness”

The government has not yet held direct talks with Elkem Iceland over the change in the company’s classification. It was reported this morning that the parent company had classified Elkem Iceland as a discontinued operation and separated the assets in preparation for a sale. Elkem, which is listed on the Norwegian stock exchange, says in its annual results that European Union tariffs have had a negative effect on the company’s performance.
