Preparations for next month's total solar eclipse in West Iceland have been underway for nearly three years, according to Sigríður Ó. Kristjánsdóttir, managing director of the Westfjords Regional Development Office, commonly known as Sirrý. Now, she says, much depends on the weather forecast.

A fire broke out in the roof of a four-storey block of flats on Naustabryggja in Bryggjuhverfi in Reykjavík earlier today.
Slökkvilið höfuðborgarsvæðisins, the Capital Area Fire and Rescue Service, sent four fire engines, two aerial-platform vehicles and all available personnel to the scene.

The government has not yet held direct talks with Elkem Iceland over the change in the company’s classification.
