Acquitted of terrorism charges for a second time
Sindri Snær Birgisson at the Supreme Court when the case was heard in February. Neither of the defendants was present in court on Thursday. The Icelandic Court of Appeal has, for a second time, upheld the district court’s acquittal on the terrorism-related charges in the so-called terrorism case, while leaving unchanged the sentences imposed for firearms offenses. more

Laufey makes an appearance on The Simpsons

The Icelandic singer Laufey makes an appearance as a version of herself in the newest episode of The Simpsons. The episode "The Extreme Makeover: Homer Edition" aired on the 17th of June, Iceland's National Day.

Drones now first responders in Capital Region policing system

The Metropolitan Police currently operates five drones that serve as the first reconnaissance tool at the scene of incidents. The devices are stationed in docking units on the roofs of four police stations and at the Mosfellsbær municipal office. The system has been gradually deployed since December.

Blue Lagoon and Arctic Adventures to merge under new agreement

Blue Lagoon and Arctic Adventures have signed an agreement to merge the two companies. At the same time, Blue Lagoon has begun formal preparations for a listing on the Icelandic stock exchange. If completed, the deal would create one of the largest companies in Iceland’s tourism sector.

Couple attempted to export over 100 bird eggs and five live chicks from Iceland

Police in the Austurland region detained a European couple at Seyðisfjörður last week after they attempted to leave Iceland on the ferry Norröna. More than 100 wild bird eggs and five live snipe chicks were found in their vehicle.

The eggs were stored in specially designed temperature-controlled bags. They were discovered during a joint inspection carried out by customs authorities and police.
