Iceland 'has powers' to block hantavirus ship

The chief epidemiologist says that the cruise ship Hondius will not be allowed to come ashore here unless strict conditions are met. Three people linked to the ship have died, including one who died on board and another who died in hospital in South Africa. Eight confirmed or suspected infections linked to the ship have been reported.

Borrow books to help Hafnarfjörður

Customers of the library in Hafnarfjörður will not be without books even though the facility is closing for about two months because of the move. Each person may borrow up to thirty books and keep them over the summer.

More shareholders for Vestmannaeyjar tunnel project

More investors have joined the group of those who have invested in the company Eyjagöng, which is carrying out ground investigations for possible tunnels between the mainland and Vestmannaeyjar.

Icelandair to reduce flights, possibly retire 757 sooner

Icelandair intend to reduce the company’s flight capacity by 5% this autumn in response to rising fuel prices following the tensions in the Persian Gulf. This comes on top of a 2% reduction in flight capacity in the spring months.
