Happy children at Harpa on International Dance Day

International Dance Day was celebrated earlier this week at Harpa.

Children of all ages and their parents turned out in large numbers for a lively dance celebration, where participants were taught the Dance of the Year, created for the occasion.

Is demolition the best option?

Magnea Guðmundsdóttir is a practising architect and runs Teiknistofan Stika. She has taught architecture at university level in both Iceland and the United Kingdom and served as vice chair of Reykjavík’s environment and planning council from 2014 to 2018. On Rás 1's Víðsjá, she recently reflected on the mindset that a building should be demolished once its use has ended.

Flag may fly all summer long

Members of Alþingi unanimously approved a proposal yesterday to broaden the permissions for flying the Icelandic national flag. They also approved an amendment to the flag laws which clearly sets out when the flag may be flown and when it may not.

The general rule will be that the national flag may not be raised before 7 am and should generally not remain up beyond sunset, and never later than midnight.
