Low-altitude Vestmannaeyjar flight pilot has wings clipped

An Icelandair pilot, who was flying with the captain who carried out the low-altitude flight over Vestmannaeyjar, is not flying while the incident is being investigated, according to RÚV sources.

The captain was flying their final flight when the incident occurred and has since left their position.

Inflation falls to 5.2%

Inflation eased slightly in April and measured 5.2% over the past twelve months, according to a measurement by Hagstofa Íslands (Statistics Iceland). It was 5.4% in March. The components that contributed most to the rise in the consumer price index were fuel, air fares, and to a lesser extent, housing.

Icelandair reports ISK 5.600.000.000 loss in first quarter

Icelandair’s net loss after tax in the first quarter of 2026 amounted to ISK 5.600.000.000. In the same quarter last year, the loss was ISK 6.100.000.000.

The improvement is therefore around ISK 500.000.000, although it is common for airlines to report losses in the first quarter, as this period is a low season for aviation operations.
