Police in the capital area arrested three people in Laugardalur yesterday on suspicion of organised shoplifting and pickpocketing. The chief superintendent urges the public to remain vigilant. Police in the capital area arrested three individuals in an operation last night on suspicion of organised theft, which police believe targeted both members of the public and retail stores across the Reykjavík area. Icelanders in serious car accident in South Africa; Bústaðakirkja open for prayers

Icelanders were involved in a serious car accident near the city of Mbombela, about three hundred and fifty kilometres east of Johannesburg in South Africa, on Wednesday. The people involved are connected by family ties and live in in Iceland.

The matter is being handled by the citizen services of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Skerjafjörður appears ruled out for caravan settlement

In recent years, Reykjavík authorities have tried to find a suitable location for the caravan settlement. It was previously located in Laugardalur, but two years ago it was required to move from there and has since been at Sævarhöfði, on the site of a former cement factory.

Halla describes childhood abuse in new interview

Halla Tómasdóttir, President of Iceland, was subjected to sexual abuse in childhood by a farmer in the countryside where she was sent during the summers. She was seven years old when the abuse began and eleven years old when she stopped going to the farm.

Clear majority satisfied with Iceland Eurovision pullout, suggests survey

The results of a new opinion poll by Maskína suggests that the decision by RÚV’s executive board for Iceland not to take part in Eurovision next year has been well received by the Icelandic public.
