Víkingur: Beethoven was 'the first indie musician'

The pianist Víkingur Heiðar Ólafsson has been on the move over the past months. He performs at more than 100 concerts a year far and wide around the world, in addition to releasing records under the Deutsche Grammophon label.

Did you know it was dymbilvika?

This week, leading up to the Saturday before Easter, has a specific name that has little connection to the modern day and that not everyone knows. One ethnologist, however, says it is unlikely that it will ever be given a new name.

Roads in North and East Iceland could be closed this afternoon

Yellow weather alerts are currently in effect for North West and North East Iceland and the Central Highlands. At 14 pm a yellow weather alert will begin for the Eastern coastal areas. Southeasterly gale with snow is expected.

The performers of the Passion Hymns recently gathered in Einar Jónsson’s sculpture garden, where they viewed, among other things, his memorial to Hallgrímur Pétursson. The Passion Hymns by Hallgrímur Pétursson will, as is tradition, be performed in full at Hallgrímskirkja tomorrow, Good Friday. The event is overseen by actress and writer Steinunn Jóhannesdóttir, and a total of eight readers will share the recitation of the hymns. more

Lots on around Iceland this Easter

Skítamórall and Bríet in the Westfjords

As usual, the music festival Aldrei fór ég suður will take place in Ísafjörður this weekend. This is the 22nd time it has been held, and performers include Skítamórall, Friðrik Dór and Sykur.
