Andri Ómarsson is CEO of Glassriver, whose series Cold Haven was selected for the 2026 Berlinale Series Market.

36 hours free at capital preschools

Preschool attendance for children in Reykjavík is to be free for up to 36 hours per week, after which a progressively increasing cost will be added for longer attendance up to 42.5 hours per week.

Preschool opening hours will not be shortened, but parents will be encouraged to have their children spend less time at school than now if possible.

Hopes of recovering Lúðvík

Morgunblaðið has reported that there are hopes of being able to locate the remains of Lúðvík Pétursson, who is believed to have fallen into a fissure in Grindavík in January 2024.

Strong winds and snowfall in the south

Snow will begin to fall in the south of the country this evening, and in the South Iceland region it will continue into tomorrow.

In the far west there will be strong easterly winds, while in the north winds will be light from the north, with light snow showers along the coast.

Temperatures will fall to lows of -18, coldest inland, while it will likely be above 0 in the far south this evening.

Glacier tours increasingly dangerous

Companies offering glacier tours must take new conditions caused by shrinking glaciers into account in their safety plans. This is stated by Ferðamálastofa in a notice on its website.

It warns that glacier tours are becoming increasingly dangerous due to significant glacier retreat. Attention is drawn to the fact that previously unknown crevasse areas have appeared in many places and may pose a danger to travellers.
