Confusion over charges for ferry tourists

The regional manager of Smyril Line, which operates the ferry Norræna, has criticised the new daily charges for tourists’ vehicles, introduced following the introduction of the kilometre charge.

Lindex to leave Iceland

The clothing retailer Lindex is closing all of its stores in Iceland on 28 February. There are ten stores in total, located around the country.

A joint announcement from LDX19, the operator of Lindex in Iceland, and the parent company Lindex AB in Sweden, states that the stores will continue to operate as usual until the end of January, with the closure of individual stores to be announced later.

Child diagnosed with measles after arrival from abroad

A measles infection was diagnosed in a young child at the emergency department of Barnaspítali Hringsins (Children’s Hospital of Iceland) on Tuesday. The child had arrived from abroad the previous day.

Hafnarfjörður sex offence case sent to prosecutors and prioritised

A case in which a man is suspected of a sexual offence against a ten-year-old boy in Hafnarfjörður has been sent to Héraðssaksóknari (Director of Public Prosecutions). This is confirmed by Hildur Sunna Pálmadóttir, head of the police prosecution division, and prosecutor Karl Ingi Vilbergsson.

Jóhann Karl Þórisson, Assistant Chief Superintendent with the Capital Area Police, says the police are systematically removing offenders from the country by imposing re-entry bans. In recent months, there has been an increase in foreign nationals coming to Iceland, posing as tourists but then being caught selling drugs. more

Jón Þór Víglundsson, information officer of Landsbjörg, says that firework sales this year went well. They are an important part of fundraising for individual rescue teams.
