Höskuldur Tryggvason is making his way across Antarctica using a traction kite. Höskuldur Tryggvason is currently in Antarctica, where he aims to ski across the continent using a traction kite and a sled in tow. Höskuldur — known as Höddi — is travelling completely alone, and the expedition is entirely unassisted and non-motorised. more


Space has been set up in a parking garage at Landspítali University Hospital in Fossvogur to accommodate patients. Landspítali University Hospital has set up temporary accommodation for patients in a parking garage on the ground floor of the hospital in Fossvogur. Rafn Benediktsson, director of the emergency department, says that infections and contagious illnesses have made it necessary to do everything possible to keep patients separated. more

UNESCO nod and Yule Lad bath celebrate Iceland's swimming culture

Iceland’s swimming pool culture has been formally recognised as a living tradition and has been added to UNESCO’s list of the intangible cultural heritage of humanity. It therefore joins Belgian beer culture, the French baguette and the Finnish sauna tradition.

Recall of Bónus Grjónagrautur

Þykkvabæjar ehf. has recalled and removed Bónus Grjónagrautur 1 kg from sale, after a foreign object was found in a bag of the product.

This applies to a single production batch of the rice porridge with a best before date of 01.02.2026.

290 citizenship applications not processed before Christmas

A total of 290 applications for Icelandic citizenship have been submitted to Alþingi (Parliament).

In light of the relatively high number of applications, it will now not be possible to process them before Christmas.

Swan swims in Seltjarnarnes

A swan wandered into the swimming pool at Seltjarnarnes at around 11 am today.

According to staff, it first landed in the children’s pool but moved shortly afterwards into the deep pool.

There is not sufficient space for the swan to take off, and it has therefore become necessary to assist it, so that it can be on its way again.
