PM: “I don’t think there will be an Icelandic army in my lifetime”

Kristrún Frostadóttir, Prime Minister, says she does not believe Icelanders will establish an army in her lifetime.

She answered questions from conference guests today at the Arctic Circle Assembly in Reykjavík.

“In all honesty, and although I cannot speak for the entire Icelandic nation, I think everyone is satisfied with the current situation regarding our presence and security. The government is as well,” Kristrún said.

Difficult to fully assess environmental impact of Sundabraut

The environmental impact report for Sundabraut is open for comment in the National Planning Portal. Opinions are divided on the project and on which option should be chosen - a bridge or a tunnel. Icelandair share price drops sharply after disappointing results

Icelandair’s announcement yesterday that the company’s summer performance would fall short of expectations caused its share price to drop by 10% this morning.

The company said yesterday that hopes for improved profitability in the third quarter had not been realised. Revenue increased year-on-year in line with projections, but costs were higher than anticipated.

Three issues under investigation at Vesturbæjarlaug
Vesturbæjarlaug has now been closed for the fourth time in six months. Once again, the main and children’s pools at Vesturbæjarlaug have had to be closed due to maintenance work. In recent months, the pool has repeatedly been shut down because of problems with the paint on the pool floor. more
