Iceland Aims to Cut Emissions by Over 50% by 2035

Suspected farmed salmon caught in Blanda this morning

Escaped salmon from Dýrafjörður have been detected in six salmon rivers, including Blanda.

“We have already sent six fish [for examination]. And they had already analysed two. One of them was a farmed salmon. The other turned out to be wild. Path above Ólafsfjörður could increase landslide risk

Paths constructed by the forestry association of Ólafsfjörður in the slope above the town could create increased risk of landslides in heavy rain.

Avalanche experts who visited the site today say they need more time to assess the stability.

Play CEO denies flight cancelled due to informal strike

The CEO of Play, Einar Örn Ólafsson, called a staff meeting this morning at short notice and says its purpose was general information sharing and an attempt to rally the group together.

Asked about the airline pilots’ demands, he says discussions are under way. He says neither dismissals nor other changes were announced at the meeting. He had not received any information that the flight was cancelled due to informal strike action. RÚV […] more

Make a date with the devil at Spöngin

On Monday from 4:30 pm - 5:30 pm, Grégory Cattaneo, a French medieval historian and author living in Iceland, will give a lecture, in Icelandic, at Borgarbókasafnið Spöngin on various aspects of devil worship in the Middle Ages, including religion, heresy, legends, traditions and customs, folklore and the church’s opposition.

Laufey library linkup creates cool cards

The internationally famous Icelandic musician Laufey Lín and Borgarbókasafnið (Reykjavík City Library), are releasing a new limited edition library card, for capital bookworms.

Marking the third A Very Laufey Day, Borgarbókasafnið, along with several foreign public libraries, has been selected to issue a special Laufey library card.

Can't tell farmed salmon from wild salmon
Stefán Einar Stefánsson  had Daníel Jakobsson, CEO of Artic Fish as his guest in the last episode of Spursmál. One of the main problems in the current discussion about accidental escapes of farmed salmon is that people can no longer tell farmed fish apart from wild fish.
