Minister of Finance: temptation to postpone belongs to the past

Daði Már Kristófersson, Minister of Finance, has said in a speech at today's Infrastructure conference, that it is no longer permissible to postpone important infrastructure projects for the sake of saving.

Sources of revenue for development in transport have been decreasing, among other reasons because of the electrification of the vehicle fleet and more fuel-efficient fossil-fuel vehicles.

2025 one of the warmest years in Iceland’s history

The year 2025 has gone down as one of the warmest on record in Iceland. The first seven months were exceptionally warm, with May and July reaching record average temperatures. Spring and summer brought a series of unprecedented highs, and new records were also set in August.

Police recover stolen ATM and close case

A woman detained in connection with the case has already been released, while a man, suspected of several other crimes, was remanded in custody today for a month under preventive detention for repeat offenders. He admitted to planning and carrying out the theft. The police consider the case resolved, although various aspects are still under investigation.

Woman likely survives planned family suicide at Edition Hotel

The bodies of the man and his daughter were discovered on June 14 at the Edition Hotel near Reykjavik’s harbour. The woman sustained stab wounds but was never in a life-threatening condition. She is suspected of having caused their deaths. The family was French and had lived in Ireland since 2017.

Hiker lost south of Lakagígar
Lakagígar. Shortly after midnight, rescue teams in the Skaftá region were called out after a hiker lost his way near Úlfárdalsker. more


The car had been driven off course, ending up in Markarfljót, which carries a considerable amount of water. Rescue teams from Dagrenning in Hvolsvöllur and the Air Rescue Team in Hella were dispatched on the highest priority yesterday morning after reports of a car stuck in Markarfljót, near Gilsá on the Emstrur route. Five people were in the vehicle. more
