The well-known Icelandic media brands Stöð 2 and Vodafone have now officially merged under a new name: Sýn. The rebranding took effect today, according to mbl.is sources. Penalty fees for unpaid parking: "disguised debt collection"

The association claims that parking companies have committed widespread breaches related to paid parking and the imposition of so-called unpaid fees. It argues that these charges constitute de facto debt collection - and should therefore fall under debt collection laws.

The association is calling on the authorities to introduce clear and fair rules governing paid parking.

Inflation now expected to remain persistent through the year

Inflation is expected to rise slightly in the coming months and reach 4 percent by the end of the year. This means that further cuts to the central bank’s interest rates are unlikely in 2025.

Inflation currently stands at 3.8 percent, having declined slowly so far this year. But according to economists at Landsbankinn, a further reduction is not expected in the coming months. On the contrary, a slight increase is anticipated.

The man was 22 years old. The man who was found deceased on the slopes of Kistufell, part of Mount Esja, yesterday afternoon has been identified as Viktor Arman Kambizson, aged 22. more

Uncertainty, grief and anger at takeover plans

It was announced yesterday that two of the company’s largest shareholders intend to make a takeover bid for all shares in the airline.

The company would then be delisted, its Icelandic air operator’s certificate surrendered, and operations moved under a Maltese licence, with increased focus on the company’s offices in Malta and Lithuania.

The orca is free

The orca that stranded in Gorvík near Korpúlfsstaðir on Tuesday is now free from the shallows and has swum towards open sea.

The whale became stranded by Grafarvogur around 9pm on Tuesday, and response teams quickly arrived at the scene.

They stayed in the shallows throughout the night, keeping the orca wet and stable.

Population grew proportionally most in tiny Fljótsdalshreppur

Fifteen municipalities in Iceland experienced population decline over the past six months, but the largest proportional increase was seen in a small municipality in East Iceland.

The vast majority of residents live in the capital area, where the population increased by half of one percent overall.
