Full divestment of state shares in Íslandsbanki: huge demand, success of the public offering

The Icelandic government has sold its entire 45.2% stake in Íslandsbanki through a public offering that concluded this week.

The decision to divest all remaining shares came after demand in the offering far exceeded initial expectations. Initially, the plan was to sell only 20%, but due to “unprecedented interest from domestic investors,” Finance Minister Daði Már Kristófersson decided to expand the offer.

New pedestrian and cycling bridge over Sæbraut to be installed next week

The Road and Coastal Administration plans to lift the pre-assembled bridge into place early next week, weather permitting. It will be positioned on staircase structures that have already been built at Snekkjuvogur and Dugguvogur streets.

Íslandsbanki. The public showed strong interest in the recent sale of Íslandsbanki shares, with over 31,000 individuals participating in the government’s auction, which concluded yesterday. According to a statement from the Ministry of Finance, nearly all the shares offered by the state were subscribed to by the public. more

Excavator overturns on Tjörnin lake islet
It didn't get any better than when the contractor company Sólgarður's mini excavator fell to the side while working on the islet in Tjörnin lake today, but everything went well, says Sölvi Steinar Jónsson, who is responsible for refreshing the islet. Summer weather expected all weekend

Most of the country will see sunny skies, though coastal fog is possible along the southern and eastern shores. Winds will be light and variable, blowing at 3 to 8 meters per second. Temperatures will remain between 12 and 23 degrees, with the highest readings in the northeast, as in recent days.

Whales to be hunted again in the Westfjords

A council member from the municipality of Ísafjarðarbær has announced that around five minke whales are expected to be caught near the Westfjords this summer. The municipality has requested that the Ministry of Industry and Innovation ban whaling in designated conservation areas.
