Ross Edgley, a British swimmer who plans to swim around Iceland. Ross Edgley, a 39-year-old endurance athlete and swimmer from the UK, is set to embark on an extraordinary journey this Friday—a 1,600-kilometer swim around Iceland. The challenge, which could take between three to five months, is one of the most ambitious of his career and has been more than a year in the making. more

Record heat for May

The highest temperature ever recorded for May was this afternoon at Egilsstaðir Airport in the east of Iceland. The temperature measured was 26.3 degrees.

Haraldur Eiríkisson, a meteorologist at the Icelandic Meteorological Office, confirmed that the Icelandic Meteorological Office is not aware of higher temperatures being measured in the country in May.

Icelandair adds Edinburgh and Malaga as new destinations

Icelandair will fly to new destinations this autumn. The airline has added Edinburgh and Malaga as new destinations and will begin to fly there in September. It had previously been announced that Icelandair has added Istanbul and Miami as destinations as well.

Flights to Malaga in Spain will be operated once or twice a week from September 6 to May 30.

Nauthólsvík beach open every day from today

Starting today, May 15th, Nauthólsvík Geothermal Beach in Reykjavík will be open every day from 10 AM to 7 PM. The summer opening will take effect two weeks earlier than usual.

A good weather forecast for the next few days and the closure of swimming pools in Reykjavík for maintenance factor into the decision.

More than 1400 earthquakes around Grímsey

An earthquake swarm is still ongoing around Grímsey, off the north coast of Iceland. It started early Tuesday morning and since then more than 1400 earthquakes have been reorded, according to Steinunn Helgadóttir, a natural hazard expert at the Icelandic Meteorological Office.
