Overcrowded Prisons Put People in Danger, Says Guard Chairman

The Reykjadalur swimming pool has always been the heart of the activity and guests even go to the pool several times a day. More than 11 million krónur has been raised in just two days to support essential upgrades to the Reykjadalur swimming pool, a cherished facility where the Paralympic and Disabled Support Association has hosted summer camps for children and youth with disabilities for over six decades. more

11 million raised in two days for Reykjadalur swimming pool

Styrktarfélag lamaðra og fatlaðra (Support Association for the Disabled) has been running summer camps for disabled children and young people in Reykjadalur for 62 years.

Andrea Rói Sigurbjörns, manager of Reykjadalur, says that over time the swimming pool there has become the heart of the summer camp. However, it has aged considerably and maintenance is necessary so that it can be reopened this summer.

As many as 20,000 different sexes in nature

While some species in nature reproduce asexually, there are others that possess over twenty thousand sexes. This is among the information presented in the response by Arnar Pálsson, professor of bioinformatics, to a question on Vísindavefurinn (University of Iceland Science Web) regarding the number of sexes in nature.

Upgrading wastewater treatment near Lagarfljót could cost up to ISK 1.5 billion

The tendering process has begun for a new sewage treatment facility at Melshorn near Lagarfljót, but construction has been delayed due to uncertainty over required purification standards. If local authorities are forced to implement a two-stage treatment process in accordance with evolving EU environmental rules, total costs could surge to ISK 1.5 billion.
