The Ministry of Social Affairs and Housing announced on the government’s website today that it is working on shortening the maximum length of time during which individuals can receive unemployment benefits.

According to the website of the Municipality of Akureyri, the first puffins have now settled in Grímsey. This hardy little seabird spends most of its life at sea but comes ashore for breeding season.

Guðrún Aspelund, Chief Epidemiologist, addressed the issue on Rás 2 today.
She was asked, among other things, whether people in Iceland are vaccinated against TB.
“No, we aren’t vaccinated against tuberculosis in Iceland — and in fact, we never have been. TB transmission was brought under control here through other measures, so there was never considered to be a need for vaccination.

The survey, conducted 7–16 March, saw over 44% of respondents say they were completely, very, or somewhat in favour of Iceland joining the EU. 36% said they were completely, very, or somewhat opposed. These results are similar to those seen three years ago, when support for membership had also been on the rise. (In this survey, 20% of respondents said they neither favoured nor opposed membership.)
