The relationship began with abduction
Flight attendants Ester Magnúsdóttir, Salvör Þormóðsdóttir, Erna Hrólfsdóttir and Suzette Reding Carlén show off the latest flight attendant fashion. The clothing was introduced on April 1, 1971 and designed by master tailor Jón Skúli Þórisson. “It was an easy decision to put this book together. When the company was approaching its eightieth anniversary, in March 2024, Haukur Alfreðsson from the Loftleiðir Historical Society approached me and suggested that I make a grand photo book about the company’s history, a book that would make sense of this great Loftleiðir Airlines adventure. I thought so and got to work,” says Sigurgeir Orri Sigurgeirsson, recalling what made him decide to document the history of Loftleiðir and publish the book Loftleiðir, which was published last year. more

Hopes for good Eurovision VÆB as brothers take trophy

Iceland's entry to this year's Eurovision Song Contest was confirmed last night, with the victory of the song RÓA by the brothers VÆB, in the final of Söngvakeppnin 2025.

The final night of the contest again took place at RVK Studios Film Studio in Gufunes. There brothers Hálfdán Helgi Matthíasson and Matthías Davíð Matthíasson claimed the Söngvakeppnin trophy.

The five parties that have been in negotiations to form a majority in the Reykjavík City Council in recent weeks convened a press conference in the last few moments.

Magma reaches same levels as before last eruption

Calculations by the Icelandic Meteorological Office indicate that the amount of magma accumulated beneath Svartsengi is now equal to that which existed before the eruption that began on 20 November.

Based on previous events in the Sundhnúksgígaröð volcanic system, this suggests that the likelihood of the next event occurring within the coming days or weeks is increasing.

Teachers walk out after municipalities reject proposal

Just before noon, the Board of the Association of Icelandic Municipalities rejected Ástráður state mediator's Haraldsson’s proposal for resolving the ongoing dispute between teachers and municipalities. Teachers had already approved the proposal yesterday.
