Demanding immediate action

Artist Egill Sæbjörnsson likens the contemporary struggle for beauty to the struggle to preserve the "Turf". A group of architects, engineers and artists is demanding immediate action to stop the decline of Icelandic architecture. Magma reaches same levels as before last eruption

Calculations by the Icelandic Meteorological Office indicate that the amount of magma accumulated beneath Svartsengi is now equal to that which existed before the eruption that began on 20 November.

Based on previous events in the Sundhnúksgígaröð volcanic system, this suggests that the likelihood of the next event occurring within the coming days or weeks is increasing.

Teachers walk out after municipalities reject proposal

Just before noon, the Board of the Association of Icelandic Municipalities rejected Ástráður state mediator's Haraldsson’s proposal for resolving the ongoing dispute between teachers and municipalities. Teachers had already approved the proposal yesterday.
