Bus stuck on Höfði lawn

The police were called to assist after a bus was driven onto the lawn in front of Höfði on Borgartún around 1 p.m. today. The bus became stuck, and the damage to the grass is significant.

Serious accident on Þingvallavegur earlier today

A serious traffic accident took place on Þingvallavegur near Álftavatn shortly after half past nine this morning. The driver was alone in the car.

According to Þorsteinn M. Kristinsson, chief superintendent at lögreglan á Suðurlandi (the Police in South Iceland), both the fire brigade and paramedics were dispatched to the scene along with the police.

The accumulated maintenance debt on the road system has amounted to ISK 10 billion per year for the past 15-16 years. Father of waste management director’s child hired as consultant

Guðríður Erla Friðriksdóttir, head of the environment and infrastructure division at Akureyrarbær, acknowledges that it was a mistake not to pay more attention to potential conflicts of interest when hiring a waste management consultant for the town’s waste collection system reform.

The contractor hired for the consultancy is the father of the child of the town’s head of waste management, making the connection quite close.
