Questions remain over Reykjavík Airport runway closure

Reykjavíkurborg (City of Reykjavík) and Samgöngustofa (Icelandic Transport Authority) are meeting today to discuss the closure of the east-west runway at Reykjavíkurflugvöllur (Reykjavík Airport) and the continuation of tree felling in Öskjuhlíð.

The chair of the Welfare Committee in Alþingi says that the uncertainty surrounding air ambulance services is a matter of grave concern and must be resolved.

Formal negotiations on creating majority

Negotiations between the leaders of the five city council parties, who have held informal talks about forming a new majority in Reykjavík City Council yesterday and today, have been progressing well. The party leaders have now decided to begin formal negotiations.

This was announced in a statement from Líf Magneudóttir, leader of Vinstri græn (Left-Green Movement) in the city council.

Finns police NATO ops in Iceland for first time

The head of the Finnish air squadron conducting NATO air policing in Iceland says that their presence here marks an important milestone.

The squadron consists of fifty personnel, and this is the first time the Finnish Air Force has undertaken this mission off the coast of Iceland since Finland joined NATO in 2023.
