Miklabraut partially closed due to major collision
A witness says five cars collided. A multiple vehicle collision occurred on Miklabraut this evening. No one was injured, but photos from a witness show several cars that appear to have collided, including one that has gone off the road. more

Over the past 24 hours, more than ten earthquakes have been recorded just east of Mt Western Hvalhnúkur, the largest measuring 3.0, which was measured 5.5 kilometers south-southwest of Bláfjallaskáli just after 6 am this morning. more

Critical infrastructure prioritised in any internet emergency

The core operations of Iceland’s most critical infrastructure must have priority access to limited internet connectivity in the event of submarine cable disruptions. This is according to an expert in the Icelandic government’s cyber security unit. Public access to entertainment requiring internet connectivity would be suspended during such a scenario.

Icy in most places throughout Friday

Icy conditions prevail on main routes across most regions. Snowplough operators have been clearing roads since this morning, leaving most roads free of snow except in areas with limited maintenance. This is according to Sveinbjörn Hjálmarsson, from Vegagerðin.

“The road conditions are fine overall. Thankfully, the wind is calm across the country, which helps immensely,” says Sveinbjörn.

The Dark Music Days festival begins later today, Friday, with students from the Vesturbær and Miðbær School Orchestra premiering a new collaborative work at Harpa, at 4.30pm.
