Damage caused by a fire that broke out in a woodchipper at Sorpa's facility at Álfsnes today runs to about ISK 100 million, says Gunnar Dofri Ólafsson, head of Sorpa’s service and communications division.

Two foreign tourists received assistance from rescue teams on Mælifellssandur in the early hours of Sunday. The travellers had set off from South Iceland and intended to travel through Fjallabak by bicycle. When they saw the poor conditions, and did not want to continue their journey after being faced with a great deal of snow and slush, they requested assistance.
