No damages over parish mould abolition

Landsréttur (Court of Appeal) reversed yesterday the decision of Héraðsdómur Reykjavíkur (Reykjavík District Court) which had found Þjóðkirkjan (National Church of Iceland) liable for damages to a priest who lost his parish. He also will not be permitted to go directly on to a pension.

Nine new names get nod

In the newest rulings of mannanafnanefnd (Icelandic Naming Committee) nine new names have been added to the register of personal names.

The names Rick, Raven, Enora, Carlo, Flóres, Jörvaldi, Ian and Mannsi were approved in the newest rulings of the committee.

Dalabyggð and Húnaþing vestra merger vote underway

A residents’ referendum began this morning in Dalabyggð and Húnaþing vestra on the proposed merger of the municipalities. It runs until 13 December.

About 1,200 people live in Húnaþing vestra and about 650 in Dalabyggð, and formal merger negotiations began in the summer.

The two municipalities are in different regions of the country; Húnaþing vestra in Northwest Iceland and Dalabyggð in West Iceland. […] more

Historic Name ‘Athanasiús’ Approved by Icelandic Naming Committee
The Icelandic Naming Committee has granted official approval to the name Athanasiús, RÚV reports, bringing it into the island nation’s registry of permissible given names. Up to ISK 10 billion NATO investment in Helguvík
