The earthquake swarm that started south of Reykjanestá on Wednesday appears to be dying down, according to a natural hazards specialist at the Icelandic Meteorological Office.
However, it is not ruled out that earthquake activity could increase again.
The earthquakes may be triggered by changes in the stress field on the Reykjanes Peninsula, following years of seismic and volcanic activity in the region.

A fuse blew at a substation in Norðurál’s aluminium plant in Grundartangi today, injuring one worker.
This has been confirmed by Sólveig Bergmann, Norðurál’s spokesperson, though she says she currently has no information on the condition of the injured employee.
